3-Phase Step-Up Transformer

Now let me tell you the reason I posted the original question. I’m having what I think may be a grounding issue on the bed and wondering if the input voltage is the issue. After careful review of the wiring on the back side of the terminal, I have realized the bed is actually wired for single phase. The issue that I am having is as follows. It started with three bulbs on the right arm not working. I opened the arm and noticed that the neutral connections from the three starters are connected to the a single terminal on the arm. This terminal connection on the top had two black wires to the main boards under the bed. The fourth starter working had its neutral going to a dedicated terminal, connection to a single black wire to under the bed. Three starters connected to one terminal, the fourth working connected to a different one. So, I came up with what I thought was a brilliant idea:

Convert Single Phase to Three Phase

Bob La Londe Inscribed thus: The same applies to the fan motor if it runs the wrong way. Just swap any pair of its wires. I had overlooked the possibility that there was a fan motor in there! If the motor has been stood for a while damp can cause any leakage current to be higher than normal.

Inverters create a close approximation of a sine wave by using transistors to switch current flow.

The high leg phase B must be identified, and is not usable for phase-to-neutral loads. By George i think you got it I was going to get the 8 X 10 glossy photos with the circles and arrows at Alice’s restaurant It’s an old service i hooked up the compressor and the blower for the paint booth both 3 phase And the R service plug for a welder that is single phase amp in 6 wire even though i only went 32 feet from the breaker box Plus all the overhead lighting in the shop and the paint booth all single phase So if i don’t no what i’m doing there should be a problem Which there is none: But it’s been a few years since i did any work But it’s in the book: Put a meter in the Receptacle and what Voltage does it read?

Trouble is, with three-phase -unlike Alice’s Restaurant- you can’t always get anything you want. If it’s tapped delta, giving L to L for the single-phase load, then the three-phase loads are connected at , not – no way around it. I’d say that the paint booth equipment is connected at volt, despite what the data plates may show. Good Luck killdozerd11 , What you think i am stupid I worked as a industrial maintenance mechanic for a few years so i know how to do everything from single phase to 3 phase and from 5 volt to volt DC For the part feeders and the metal heaters And i always check and re-check my work before power up and after i always question what i do again and again because i don’t like to make mistakes And if you did hook a 3 phase motor up to single phase the motor would over heat real quick..

Line to Line Voltage IS v maybe that was what you were trying to say also but you kept saying ” v”: It is not convertible from to To operate this plasma on volts you will need a step up transformer. It will take about amps of volt power to make 50 amps of volt power this way.

I did have to add an additional circuit and ran the wire through rigid conduit.

Variable frequency drives are usually capable of converting volt single phase power into volt three phase power for electric motor applications. Most variable frequency drive manufacturers design products up to only 3 horsepower to convert single phase to three phase. Precision Electric offers solutions for customers looking to convert single phase to three phase electric motors that exceed 3 horsepower.

Precision Electric also offers variable frequency drives to convert volt single phase to volt three phase, for many different electric motor applications. Many applications in the industrial manufacturing world require larger size than the standard 3 horsepower to convert single phase to three phase. If you need a solution to convert single phase to three phase and the motor size is larger than 3 horsepower, Precision Electric offers solutions to these applications.

Variable frequency drives are also known as VFDs , variable speed drives VSDs , adjustable speed drives, and inverters. Most variable frequency drives are applied on alternating current AC electric motors. Variable frequency drives can be used in small appliances, large mills, lathes, air compressors, conveyors, and other electric motor applications. Variable frequency drives can also be used to convert single phase to three phase. Variable frequency drives contain solid-state components that are designed to convert single phase power to three phase power on an electric motor.

Most variable frequency drive manufacturers design volt single phase input — volt three phase output but only up to approximately 3 horsepower. Rotary Phase Converters vs.

Perhaps the most confusing part of hooking up an RV is that some plugs are volts while others that look similar are volts.

The power is what is traveling through the wires. Think of the wires as water pipes. The neutral is the drain system to take it back. The water will flow back eventually to source. Best to call an electrician. The first line is the standard way to describe.

What is Three-Phase Power?

The open delta three phase service By Paul Thurst, on February 27th, 5 comments Several months ago, I drove up to an FM transmitter site, looked up at the utility pole and saw this: Three Phase open delta transformer bank Three phase open delta is a bad hombre. Most, if not all, transmitter manufactures will void the warranty of any transmitter connected to a service like this. What is perplexing is it appears that all three phases are available on the primary side, why would this be necessary?

Am I right to think that that makes the difference and is it advisable to hook it up single phase?

But voltage transformers can also be constructed for connection to not only one single phase, but for two-phases, three-phases, six-phases and even elaborate combinations up to phases for some DC rectification transformers. If we take three single-phase transformers and connect their primary windings to each other and their secondary windings to each other in a fixed configuration, we can use the transformers on a three-phase supply.

Three-phase supplies have many electrical advantages over single-phase power and when considering three-phase transformers we have to deal with three alternating voltages and currents differing in phase-time by degrees as shown below. Three Phase Voltages and Currents Where: VL is the line-to-line voltage, and VP is the phase-to-neutral voltage.

A transformer can not act as a phase changing device and change single-phase into three-phase or three-phase into single phase. To make the transformer connections compatible with three-phase supplies we need to connect them together in a particular way to form a Three Phase Transformer Configuration. The advantages of building a single three phase transformer is that for the same kVA rating it will be smaller, cheaper and lighter than three individual single phase transformers connected together because the copper and iron core are used more effectively.

The methods of connecting the primary and secondary windings are the same, whether using just one Three Phase Transformer or three separate Single Phase Transformers. Consider the circuit below: Three Phase Transformer Connections The primary and secondary windings of a transformer can be connected in different configuration as shown to meet practically any requirement. In the case of three phase transformer windings, three forms of connection are possible:

When jumpstarting a car you essentially give the dead battery just enough boost to start the engine and then rely on the alternator to charge the battery the rest of the way. When using a battery charger, you allow the battery to charge all the way before it will be used again. This should answer important questions such as what the voltage requirements are for charging your battery and whether or not you should remove it from the vehicle before charging.

There will be a manual with your battery charger that provides details for the appropriate use of the charger. Working in a well-ventilated area will help dissipate the hydrogen gas that batteries generate from the sulfuric acid within their cells. Also, make sure to keep any other volatile substances, such as gasoline, flammable materials, or ignition sources flames, cigarettes, matches, lighters away from the battery at all times.

There is a difference in the power lost in the supply wiring though. All things being equal, a volt motor will lose 4 times more power through line loss than a v motor. This mainly means that a volt motor will get to speed more quickly than it’s v counterpart. Even this is irrelevant if the supply lines are less than 50 feet long.

The cost of operation is the same. You buy watts not amps. Running a motor at 10 amps is the same as at 5 amps with regard to cost of operation. If it’s missing, look at the input wiring – 4 wires in is a giveaway. Also – 3 phase motors don’t have starting capacitors and they typically are small for their rated horsepower. In North America, the standard electrical frequency is 60Hz or 60 cycles per second. In Europe, 50Hz power is more common.
